Public health authorities in the Slovak Republic fully cooperate with the police in the case of suspected baby food that was supposed to be contaminated and which the police seized in a store in Dunajská Streda. The chief hygienist of the Slovak Republic, Tatiana Červeňová, ordered inspections in the affected store and in the head office of the aforementioned chain of stores, focused on selected HiPP baby food products, based on the information provided so far by the police. TASR was informed about this by the spokeswoman of the Office of Public Health (ÚVZ) of the Slovak Republic, Daša Račková.
“The Office of Public Health of the Slovak Republic, through the State Veterinary and Food Administration of the Slovak Republic, as a contact point for the system of mutual cooperation of the EU member states (the so-called AAC system), asked the control authorities in the Czech Republic for a distribution list of the products in question, as well as for additional information from the operator of the food business,” said Račková.
ÚVZ warns consumers to pay increased attention to information about the products in question and to be cautious when shopping in brick-and-mortar stores and online, in Slovakia and abroad.
“If you find that the product shows signs of damage to the packaging or lid and it looks like it has already been opened, or there is no clicking sound when opening, or the product has an unusual or spoiled smell, do not consume such a product,” recommends ÚVZ. At the same time, he advises people to put such a product aside from other foods and ensure that other members of the household do not have access to it. “Afterwards, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. In case of suspicion, contact the police or the relevant regional public health office,ÚVZ added.
On Saturday (April 18) evening, the Austrian police warned against HiPP baby formula, which may contain poisonous ingredients. The brand announced a product recall at SPAR supermarkets in Austria on Friday (17/04) due to the possibility that a “dangerous substance” had been added to its carrot and potato puree. As part of the investigation, according to the Austrian police, cups of this brand were seized in Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
As part of international police cooperation, the Slovak police received information about the possible contamination of a certain batch of baby food products. She seized the suspected baby food, which was supposed to be contaminated, in a store in Dunajská Streda and handed it over for expert examination.
