Iran classifies US naval blockade as ceasefire violation

Iranian spokesman says US measure in the Strait of Hormuz is illegal and represents a war crime against the country’s civilian population

Iran’s Foreign Ministry classified the naval blockade imposed by the United States as a violation of the Pakistan-brokered ceasefire. Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqai said this Sunday (19 April 2026), in a post on the social network X. US President Donald Trump (Republican Party) also said that Tehran disrespected the truce.

Baqai characterized the US measure as “illegal and criminal”. “The so-called ‘blockade’ of Iran’s ports or coast by the United States is not only a violation of the Pakistan-brokered ceasefire, it is also illegal and criminal.”he stated.

The Iranian spokesman added that the action represents collective punishment against civilians. “Furthermore, by deliberately inflicting collective punishment on the Iranian population, this amounts to a war crime and a crime against humanity.”these.

In turn, Trump said Iran a “total violation” of the ceasefire, published in Truth Social. The Republican announced that negotiators from the United States will arrive in Pakistan this Monday (20 April) for talks with Iranian representatives.

“We are offering a very fair and reasonable deal. I hope they accept it because if they don’t, the United States will destroy every power plant and every bridge in Iran.”Trump wrote.

The US president did not say when the talks would begin nor did he identify who was sent to the country. The meeting between the countries was led, on the American side, by vice president JD Vance. Trump conditioned the suspension of new attacks on Iranian acceptance of the agreement proposed by the United States.

According to the Iranian news agency TasnimIran has not yet decided whether it will send a delegation to Pakistan to negotiate again. No talks will take place as long as the US continues to block the Strait of Hormuzsays the agency.
