Government has already spoken to public companies in the sector; is working on the new product that should appear later this year.
The Minister of Infrastructure announced that the Government is working on a solution for national scale intermodal passwhich should be presented in the coming months, after the “success” of the railway green pass.
According to the governor, the executive has already signaled this intention to public companies of the sector.
“The Government has been working, and just last week we met with the large transport companies in the public sector, and signaled our desire to quickly present a pass that has a national character”, said Miguel Pinto Luz during the presentation of the balance of the green railway pass at Santa Apolónia station, in Lisbon.
“The green railway pass was a success and we are working to present a solution for an intermodal pass in the coming months, but on a national scale”, he added.
Miguel Pinto Luz argued that the new solution is part of the government’s strategy to reinforce the use of public transport. “This is essential. Today we have more Portuguese people using public transport. We want to invite even more Portuguese people to use public transport”, he said.
The “success” of the green pass
The green rail pass has already been an option for more than one million of people in Portugal, since it was launched a year and a half ago, in October 2024.
Of that one million, last month, March, only 70 mil passes monthly were active.

The green rail pass costs 20 euros per month. Allows you to travel on second class interregional and intercity trains, regional and urban in Coimbra. It can also be used in the urban areas of Lisbon and Porto, but outside the metropolitan area of both cities.
