The Brazilian Navy will intensify search operations in the Tocantins River after the collapse of a bridge in the region. Starting this Tuesday (24), eleven specialized divers will join efforts to locate the victims of the incident.
Currently, there are three vessels and ten Navy personnel operating at the site. The announced reinforcement includes not only divers, but also a team of 20 military personnel specialized in nuclear, chemical, biological and radiological defense.
Advanced equipment for underwater searches
Navy divers will arrive equipped with technology capable of carrying out a detailed scan of the riverbed. This capability will be crucial to identifying and possibly recovering vehicles that fell into the water after the structure collapses.
The team specializing in NBQR (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical and Radiological) defense will have the mission of identifying possible chemicals that may have spread into the river as a result of the accident.

The National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) initiated a procedure to determine the causes and responsibilities for the collapse. Residents and local politicians say they have been warning about the precarious state of the bridge for some time, raising questions about the delay in perception and action by the competent authorities.
