Caiado appoints former FHC minister to formulate government plan

The PSDB pre-candidate for the Presidency, Ronaldo Caiadowill climb Roberto Brantpolitician from Minas Gerais and minister under Fernando Henrique Cardoso, for formulating his government plan in the race for Palácio do Planalto, according to CNN.

A columnist in newspapers in recent years, Brant wrote harsh criticisms of the polarization between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). He argues, however, that there is a “solution” to the division. For the former minister, the main problem in current Brazilian politics is the institutional crisis, with “malfunctioning” at the top of the Powers.

Roberto Brant was part of the National Constituent Assembly in 1987 and served consecutive terms as a deputy until 2007. He was Secretary of Finance of Minas Gerais in the government of Hélio Garcia and Minister of Social Security in the presidency of FHC.

The Minas Gerais politician, in 2011, participated in the founding of the PSD alongside Gilberto Kassab, but left the party a year later – after Kassab himself intervened in the elections for Belo Horizonte City Council.

Caiado still coordinates the assembly of his team. The marketer is Minas Gerais publicist Paulo Vasconcellos, a veteran of electoral disputes. In 1989, he made TV programs that catapulted Fernando Collor de Mello. He was also in the campaigns of Aécio Neves (PSDB) in 2014 and in 2022 of Cláudio Castro (PL) in Rio de Janeiro.

The former governor is also already talking to “three or four renowned economists”, according to interlocutors. The pre-campaign currently prefers not to appoint a single cadre to handle this front of the campaign.
