João Guerreiro assumes leadership of Algarve STP until 2028

Algarve Systems and Technology Partnerships () began a new strategic cycle with the inauguration of its governing bodies for the 2026-2028 term, with the presidency of the Board being assumed by João Guerreiro, as recommended by the Rector of the University of Algarve.

The new Board includes elements that carry over from previous mandates, as well as new institutional representatives, reflecting adjustments resulting from the last local elections.

New management reinforces institutional representation

Among the members who remain are Ricardo Calé (Municipality of Olhão), Hugo Barros (University of Algarve), Pedro Marcelino (ANJE) and Miguel Fernandes (Algarve Evolution). They are joined by António Pina (Municipality of Faro), as vice-president, and Hugo Pereira (Municipality of Lagos).

This composition aims to ensure a broad representation of the regional ecosystem, involving public, academic and business entities.

In this new mandate, Algarve STP will continue to focus its activities on strengthening the articulation between the scientific and technological system and the business sector, focusing on boosting collaborative projects.

The association highlights as a priority the creation of conditions for the development of innovative companies, as well as the consolidation of infrastructures dedicated to the incubation of start-ups and spin-offs.

According to management, the Algarve STP’s activity aims to “value scientific activities, business strategies and local and regional dynamics”, aligning with the Algarve Regional Smart Specialization Strategy.

Platform for economic diversification in the region

In a context of growing need for diversification of the Algarve economy, the association intends to consolidate its role as a connection platform between public, private and academic entities.

João Guerreiro emphasizes that “it is essential to consolidate levels of variable geometry, translating solid levels of cooperation that allow valuing the specific, but convergent, skills of the different components of the Regional Innovation Ecosystem”.

Algarve STP also expresses recognition to the members who have ceased their duties, especially Professor Efigénio Rebelo, former president of the Board, and Paulo Santos, who served as vice-president.

The association thus reaffirms its commitment to “continue to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and institutional cooperation”, contributing to the affirmation of the Algarve as a more competitive and sustainable territory.
