According to what the Cypriot media reports, Emmanuel Macron arrived a while ago at the Presidential Palace where he received a warm welcome from the president of the Republic.

According to the reports, during the meeting, Macron said to Christodoulidis: “I want you and your people to know that France stands by your side.”

What is the agenda of the meeting

The agenda of the talks includes the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Cyprus issue, the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries in critical sectors, as well as issues concerning the European Union. In addition, in Cyprus, which also holds the presidency of the Union at this time, an informal meeting of the European Council is being held today, with two main topics, the geopolitical situation and Europe’s reaction and the multiannual financial framework (MFF) for the period 2028-2034.

As noted by the government representative of Cyprus, Constantinos Letympiotis, Emmanuel Macron’s visit is a move of particular historical significance, as it is the first official bilateral visit by a French President since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960 and takes place at a time when relations between Cyprus and France are at their highest level, especially after the signing of the upgraded Strategic Partnership and the Action Plan 2026–2030.
