The minister ordered compliance with the sentences after recognizing the end of the possibility of presenting appeals
The minister Alexandre de Moraesof the Federal Supreme Court (STF), made official this Friday (24) the serving the sentences of those convicted of the coup plot occurred during the government of former president Jair Bolsonaro. The arrests were completed after the magistrate determined the execution of the sentences of the five sentenced in “nucleus 2”the last group that was pending.
The decision was made after the minister recognize the finality of convictions. In other words, the end of the possibility of presenting appeals. With the decision, the following will become permanent prisoners:
- Mario Fernandesretired Army general: 26 years and six months in prison;
- Silvinei Vasquesformer director of the Federal Highway Police (PRF): 24 years and six months in prison;
- Marcelo CâmaraArmy colonel and former Bolsonaro advisor: 21 years in prison;
- Filipe Martinsformer International Affairs advisor to former president Jair Bolsonaro: 21 years in prison;
- Marília de Alencarformer director of Intelligence at the Ministry of Justice, was sentenced to eight years and six months in prison and was released. With the execution of the sentences, Marília had an arrest warrant issued by the minister, but she will serve house arrest for 90 days, as she is recovering from surgery. She must wear an electronic ankle bracelet.
The sentences were defined in December last year, when the First Panel of the Court sentenced the accused.
Accusations
The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) accused Filipe Martins to be one of those responsible for drafting the coup d’état.
Mário Fernandes was accused of devising a plan to kill President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), and Moraes. The claim was found in a Word file titled “Green and Yellow Dagger”.
According to the PGR, Marcelo Câmara illegally monitored Moraes’ routine.
According to messages seized from Mauro Cid’s cell phonewhistleblower and former aide-de-camp to Bolsonaro, Câmara reported that Moraes would be in São Paulo and referred to the minister as a “professor”. The episode took place in December 2022.
Silvinei Vasquesformer director of the Federal Highway Police (PRF), worked to stop the movement of Lula voters in the second round of the 2022 elections. Marília de Alencar was responsible for collecting data on which the blitzes were based.
In December 2025, the defense of those convicted denied the accusations and defended the acquittal of the defendants.
Balance
The Supreme Court has already sentenced 29 defendants for participating in the coup plot. Currently, 20 prisoners are in closed custody.
Former Minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI) Augusto Heleno, Bolsonaro and Marília de Alencar under house arrest.
The military Márcio Nunes de Resende Júnior and Ronald Ferreira de Araújo Júnior signed agreements with the PGR and were not arrested. They received sentences of three years and five months and one year and 11 months in prison, respectively. Mauro Cid signed a plea bargain agreement and is now free.
Three arrest warrants were not served. The former director of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) Alexandre Ramagemthe president of the Instituto Voto Legal, Carlos Cesar Moretzsohn Rochaand the colonel Reginaldo Vieira de Abreu is on the run abroad.
