Valter Campanato/Agência Brasil Jorge Messias is rejected by the Senate from the STF
The Attorney General of the Union (AGU), Jorge Messias, is the first rejected in the history of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) by the Federal Senate, since redemocratization. In the entire history of Brazil, he is only the sixth to fail, the other five were all in 1894, during Floriano Peixoto’s government that lasted from 1891 to 1894.
The nominee to the STF by President Lula was rejected by the Senate late this Thursday afternoon (29), by 42 votes against 34 in favor of rejection.
