There may be a lot of pain and a lot of blood, but the biggest enemy of patients with injuries associated with sexual activity is actually shame.
Injuries associated with sexual activity are more common than many people realize. The main problem is rarely the injury: it is the delay in seeking help, for shame.
Doctors recently interviewed by the group revealed the five sexual injuries they most encounter in emergencies.
First of all: Urologist and emergency physician Martina Ambardjieva explains that most of these cases are preventable and should not be a cause for embarrassment. The risk increases when there is intense pain, bleeding, swelling or when an object is trapped in the body and the person, for some reason, postpones going to the hospital.
1. When “he” breaks
One of the most serious emergencies is the call penis fracture. Although it does not involve a bone, it is a rupture of the fibrous membrane that surrounds the erectile tissue. It can occur when the penis comes out during penetration and hits the partner’s pelvis with force.
According to the doctor, the episode is often accompanied by a clicking, immediate swelling and intense pain.
Without quick treatment, it can cause permanent curvature, painful receptions or erectile dysfunction.
2. When what goes in doesn’t come out
Another common reason for going to the emergency room is retention of objects in the rectum, vagina, or urethra.
Doctors report cases involving food, sex toys and other objects. Anatomy makes the difference: the vagina is a closed cavity, while the rectum can allow objects to pass deeper.
Experts insist that these cases are routine for medical teams and should be treated without delay.
3. When “she” tears
As vaginal tears from friction are also common, especially in postmenopausal women.
Bleeding can be frightening, although it does not always indicate a serious injury. Even so, persistent bleeding, severe pain, clots, or dizziness require medical evaluation.
Ambardjieva points out that water-based lubricants can dry quickly, increasing friction, while silicone lubricants tend to last longer.
4. When “they” cheer
Less common, but urgent, is the testicular torsion during sexual activity. The painful condition happens when the spermatic cord twists and cuts off blood flow.
Sudden and severe testicular pain should be treated as an emergency, as the window to save the testicle may be only four to six hours.
