President of the House whispered the result to the Government leader, Jaques Wagner, seconds before the release
The president of the Senate, (União Brasil-AP), released a note on Wednesday (April 29, 2026) in which he states that only “gave your opinion” to the leader of the Government in the Senate, (PT-BA), following the appointment of the Union’s attorney general, Jorge Messias, to the Federal Supreme Court.
The statement released by the senator’s press office says: “The President of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre, was questioned by the Government leader, Senator Jaques Wagner, about the voting score and, like other parliamentarians who, over the last few days, had been making assessments, gave his opinion. This only reaffirms and demonstrates the President of the House’s experience in voting”.
A Senate TV captured a private conversation between Alcolumbre and the Government leader. Seconds before the result of the defeat of Messias’ nomination to the STF came out, Alcolumbre whispered to Wagner: “You will lose by 8”. Messias lost by 7 votes: he had 34 supports and the minimum necessary to be approved was 41 votes.
Alcolumbre was from the beginning against the nomination that the president (PT) made at the end of 2025 for the open vacancy on the Federal Supreme Court.
Until these images appeared, it was never possible to capture a public statement from Alcolumbre demonstrating that he worked to defeat Planalto, Lula and Messias. The general perception in the Senate was that this was happening. But the video makes this explicit. By practically giving the precise result of the defeat, the senator from Amapá made it clear that he knew exactly how each of his allies was voting and that he was in command of the process.
