In connection with the commemoration of the end of the Second World War – which is celebrated in Russia on May 9th – Russian President Vladimir Putin offered a ceasefire in Ukraine in a conversation with his US counterpart Donald Trump. On this day, Russia celebrates “Victory Day” over Nazi Germany in the “Great Patriotic War”, as the world war is called in Russia.
