Allies of President Lula (PT) argue that he should leave his seat on the Federal Supreme Court () vacant and, therefore, refrain from nominating another name for the vacancy for which he was defeated.
The assessment is that if he bets on a new nomination he runs the risk of suffering a new defeat, which would be even worse for the government, especially in an election year.
Furthermore, these allies remember that there would not be enough time for the new nominee to be examined. In an election year, it is difficult to vote on proposals and analyze nominations after the July recess.
On the other hand, there is a government wing that defends that the president takes a stand and sends a name considered ‘irrefusable’. Despite not mentioning names, these allies say that the ideal would be to appoint a black woman to the position.
The president has not yet made a decision, but interlocutors remember that if he chooses to leave the STF seat vacant, Lula runs the risk of giving this appointment “on a platter” to the new president, if he is not re-elected.
