The United Kingdom’s terror threat level was raised to four on a five-level system on Thursday following an anti-Semitic terror attack in London on Wednesdaythe Ministry of the Interior said. TASR writes about it according to an AFP report. “The Joint Terrorism Analysis Center (JTAC) has today raised the threat level in the UK from ‘significant’, meaning an attack is likely, to ‘severe’, meaning an attack is very likely,” the department said.
The threat level had been at “significant” since February 2022, but was raised after Wednesday’s incident in which two Jewish men were stabbed. In the aforementioned incident, men aged 34 and 76 were injured near a synagogue in London’s Golders Green district. Both are currently in stable condition. The attacker, who is a British citizen born in Somalia and came to the UK as a child, is in custody. The latest case follows a series of arson attacks on targets associated with the Jewish community in London in recent weeks.
The Islamist group Harakat Asháb al-Jamín al-Islamiyya, with ties to Iran, signed up to several of them. In a video posted online, she said one of her “lone wolves” was behind Wednesday’s incident, according to data from the monitoring organization SITE Intelligence Group. AFP emphasizes that the participation of this group in the attack has not yet been officially confirmed.
