Pre-candidate for the government of São Paulo declared that the proposal also favors employers with more “committed” employees
The former Minister of Finance and pre-candidate for the government of São Paulo said this Friday (May 1, 2026) that the end of the 6 X 1 working day mainly benefits women. In an event on Labor Day, at the Metalworkers Union of São Paulo and Mogi das Cruzes, the PT member declared that the measure also favors the boss, because he will have an employee “more committed and productive”.
For Haddad, recent changes by the government (PT) in the National Congress should not delay the progress of the proposal that reduces working hours without cutting salaries. He argues that the topic is a demand from society and should be voted on in the Legislature.
Congress vetoed President Lula’s Dosimetry PL (Bill), a text that reduces penalties for crimes of coup d’état and abolition of the rule of law. He also rejected the nomination of Jorge Messias to the Federal Supreme Court.
Haddad said it is necessary “separate things”, because the end of the 6 X 1 scale is a request from the workers.
“The main beneficiaries of this change are women, because they have an exhausting journey. And it’s natural, from time to time, you see the ceiling of the journey. Humanity has worked like this since the industrial revolution”said Haddad at an event in São Paulo. Union centrals hold a rally across Brazil on Labor Day.
Haddad also declared that Brazil has not discussed the issue of working hours for a long time. He stated that society has matured to analyze the benefits of change. According to him, the proposal also benefits businesspeople.
“Everyone knows that this favors the worker, but it also favors the boss. You will have a more productive, more committed, more involved worker. It’s good for everyone”said the pre-candidate.
INTEREST RATE
Haddad once again criticized the level of interest rates this Friday (May 1, 2026). The Central Bank sets the base rate, the Selic, to 14.50% per year, but the base interest remains at a restrictive level. The monetary authority did not signal that it would continue with the cuts at the next Copom (Monetary Policy Committee) meeting in June.
For Haddad, there is no “need” of having an interest rate as high as the current one in Brazil. He blamed the president of the United States, (Republican) for the level of the base interest.
“Now we have a serious episode, which is Trump’s war, which is disrupting the entire world, but interest rates could have fallen further”these.
ALDO REBELO
Haddad criticized the recent statements by the presidential pre-candidate (DC) to Grande ABC Diarysaying that President Lula’s agenda is to increase expenses and taxes. The former minister declared that Rebelo did not compare growth indicators comparing the Lula government with “the government he supported”in reference to the mandate of the former president (PL).
“I’m sorry for him, because he had an interesting trajectory. And then to slip like that, at that age, I’m sorry. I had an appreciation for him”said Haddad.
