Alex Zanardi, former Formula 1 driver, died this Friday at the age of 59, the Italian’s family announced.
Born in Bolonho, Italy, Zanardi grew up in Castel Maggiore and began racing karts at a young age.
He entered Formula 1 in 1991, having competed for teams such as Jordan, Minardi, Lotus and Williams, throughout a career marked by several accidents.
In 2001, a serious accident led to the amputation of both legs.
