The president of the Federal, (-AP), told the opposition that the choice of the new minister of the (Federal Supreme Court) will be up to this Wednesday (29).
According to reports from two senators, Alcolumbre said he will not put another name nominated by (PT) to a vote before the election.
The opposition considers that the senator will only give in and allow Lula to be nominated if the chosen one is senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSB-MG). They, however, claim that the , after the president of the Senate assisted in the historic defeat of the president. The rejection of a STF minister had only previously occurred in 1894, during the Floriano Peixoto government, at the beginning of the Republic.
The denial of the nomination for Lula could give the future president the choice of 4 of the 11 STF ministers. Ministers Luiz Fux, Cármen Lúcia and Gilmar Mendes will retire compulsorily by 2030. Lula is currently technically tied in voting intention polls with the senator (-RJ).
Minister of the AGU (Attorney General of the Union), Jorge Messias was appointed by Lula in spite of Alcolumbre, who openly campaigned for the choice of Pacheco, his ally and predecessor in command of the House.
The president of the Senate publicly complained about finding out about his choice through the press and did not speak to the government leader, Jaques Wagner (PT-BA), for months.
Despite the public speech that he would remain neutral, Alcolumbre asked for votes against Messias’ nomination. The AGU ended up defeated with the support of just 34 senators, when it needed the favorable vote of at least 41, a score that surprised even the opposition.
Even before the vote, the president of the Senate told at least two opposition allies heard by the Sheet that it will not allow Lula to nominate a new name now, due to the proximity to the electoral period, and that the choice will be up to whoever is elected in October.
“I think it’s reasonable to leave the vacancy to the next president. I said that to Alcolumbre and he said he agrees, but it’s up to him to verbalize it,” said the opposition leader in the Senate, (PL-RN).
The conversation was confirmed to Sheet by an ally of the president of the Senate.
Contacted by his advisor at 7:57 pm this Wednesday (29), Alcolumbre did not comment.
Shortly after the defeat, President Lula’s allies disagreed on the possibility of him trying to appoint a new minister now, before the election.
The government leader in Congress, senator (PT-AP), stated that the choice is the president’s prerogative and he will exercise it again. “The President of the Republic must make a new appointment,” he said. “Each vote is a vote. This is a vote that was pressured by polarization,” he declared.
Rapporteur for Messias’ nomination, senator Weverton Rocha (PDT-MA) said that Lula stated that he would not have another name and would not present another in case of defeat. “Back there, he [Lula] He had already told me that he would not send another name if that happened. So we’re not going to discuss names”, said the pedestrian.
