GNR will send alerts through Waze to help pilgrims going to Fátima

This year, GNR will intensify its support for pilgrims, who travel to the celebrations on May 12th and 13th, in Fátima.

The action starts this Monday and will have two phases. The first of them, until the 11th, is more focused on the safety of pilgrims in transit.

Operation “Safe Pilgrimage 2026” will focus on the main access routes and the protection of the faithful. The objective is to ensure road safety and reduce risks on routes with heavy traffic and narrow shoulders.

In a statement, GNR explains that it will monitor the most critical roads. This year, the guard will use the Waze platform to issue messages and alerts about points of attention and danger.

The second phase of the operation will be dedicated to security during celebrations at the sanctuary and surrounding areas, with reinforced policing, management of entry and exit flows and support for national and foreign pilgrims.

The GNR advises pilgrims not to use headphones or cell phones during the walk and asks that the faithful always walk on the shoulder opposite to the direction of traffic, in single file and wearing reflective vests.
