Sector grew 30% in Brazil in 10 years, counteracting historic drop in world consumption of alcoholic beverages
The Brazilian wine sector is projected to generate more than R$22 billion in 2026. The OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine) recorded an expansion of approximately 30% in the consumption of the drink in the country over the last 10 years.
Between 2022 and 2023 alone, growth was 11.6%, and, in 2025, the country produced 294 thousand liters of the drink. The expansion goes against the trend of the international market. In the rest of the world, wine consumption recorded a historic drop, with the lowest rate since 1961.
For Elis Cabanilhas, journalist sommelier and official ambassador of the CWB Wine festival, Brazilians are at a new stage in the consumption of this drink. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, more than 110 million bottles of wine were sold in the country. The volume represented R$3.9 billion.
“Even with the global retraction in wine consumption, Brazil is experiencing a very particular moment of expansion and maturity. We observe not only growth in volume, but mainly a change in consumer behavior, which today seeks more diversity, quality and experiences”says Cabanilhas.
The Wine Observatory recorded, in 2025, an occupation of 27,000 hectares in southern Brazil by grapevines. The plantation generated 565,000 tons of grapes. Among the different varieties of the fruit, Bordô and Isabel are the most produced. The largest producer is Rio Grande do Sul, which represents 90% of national wine production.
DINING EXPERIENCES
The growth in wine consumption also drives events and gastronomic experiences across the country. In Curitiba, initiatives bring the public closer to producers, experts and brands in the sector. “The increase in experiences linked to the world of wine in our state and in Brazil is noticeable. In addition to the consistent evolution of production, which has been increasingly recognized in national and international awards, there is also an increase in the offer of harmonized dinners, themed tastings and events such as our CWB Wine Festival”completes Cabanilhas.
The festival will have its 2nd edition on the 23rd and 24th of May 2026, on the L4 floor of Pátio Batel, in Curitiba. The event will bring together connoisseurs, industry professionals and brands from the wine world. The public will be able to explore different labels and styles, guided by experts and producers.
