The 1990s were the wild early days of the Internet. One in which it wasn’t all that easy to find certain information or the websites that contained it. Bookmark lists were essential. The two Californians Garrett Gruener and David Warthen developed a solution for this in 1996 with the web portal “Ask Jeeves”. This saw itself as a “knowledge engine” that was intended to simplify the Internet experience, especially for children who were users. The service finally officially launched in April 1997.
