The former president, 71, was discharged from hospital this Monday (4) after undergoing a . He left the hospital where he was in Brasília this afternoon and, as a result, must return to house arrest.
In an interview with journalists, orthopedist Alexandre Firmino Paniago, responsible for the procedure, stated that Bolsonaro will wear a sling for six weeks and undergo physical therapy to recover.
“We’re going to discharge him, in fact, between six and nine months,” said the doctor.
Bolsonaro needed authorization from the minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) to undergo surgery. In the March decision that authorized the former president to go home, he was placed under house arrest — after which it was necessary to re-analyze the requirements, including medical expertise.
Bolsonaro’s surgery was performed on Friday (1st) to treat two injuries, one in the tendon at the front of the shoulder (subscapular) and the other in the upper one (supraspinatus) arthroscopically — a less invasive type of surgery with small cuts in the joint through which a digital camera is inserted to view the area internally and the instruments to treat the injuries.
According to doctor Brasil Caiado, who accompanies Bolsonaro, the procedure was carried out without any complications.
A procedure was also performed to increase the space in the joint so that the rotator cuff can move more comfortably.
“The fixed injuries were stable. The pre-operative planning that we had done was mirrored during the surgery in a very satisfactory way. It is known that there is pain and we managed to control this pain”, said the orthopedist.
