A rare and visually stunning phenomenon is delighting thousands of people on social media. Clouds with rainbow-like colors were observed in Jonggol on May 1, creating an unusual spectacle in the sky.
The images, shared by several residents, show iridescent clouds with vibrant shades of pink, green and blue, which appeared to change color depending on the incidence of sunlight. The footage quickly went viral, with many users describing the scenery as “incredibly beautiful”.
The explanation later came from the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, which confirmed that it was a natural phenomenon linked to atmospheric optics.
Known as cloud iridescence, this effect occurs when sunlight interacts with small particles of water or ice crystals present in the atmosphere. The light is diffracted, separating into the various colors that make it up and creating the multicolored effect visible in the sky.
