The Minister of Defense, José Mucio, apologized to the federal deputy (Novo-RS) this Wednesday (6),
The announcement was made by Van Hattem himself during a session of the Commission on Foreign Relations and National Defense.
The deputy reported that, last Wednesday (29), he was approached inside the Chamber by General Emílio Ribeiro, head of the Army’s parliamentary advisory service.
The approach occurred after Van Hattem made a critical statement in the commission to the Army commander, General Tomás Paiva, whom he called an aide-de-camp to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court. The parliamentarian criticizes the Army for not showing solidarity with soldiers condemned by Moraes in the coup plot trial.
Upon leaving the commission, the deputy was questioned by General Emilio and there was a harsh dialogue. Van Hattem even called the advisor and the Army commander “lax” for bending to Moraes.
“Today I accepted the apology made by the Minister of Defense, José Múcio, who was with us in the morning. And I also accept it because the minister said that he will take the necessary measures to hold the conduct of this general accountable, who failed in his role here at the Foreign Relations Commission”, said the deputy this Wednesday.
According to the deputy, Mucio announced that he had ordered the general’s removal from the sessions of the Foreign Relations Commission.
Pre-candidate for the Senate, Van Hattem has been critical of the STF in speeches from the Chamber’s rostrum and in street demonstrations and on social media.
