Planalto preached “bold forward” to leaders in Congress after defeat

In a meeting outside the official agenda, palace ministers brought together leaders of the Lula (PT) government at the National Congress and preached overcoming last week’s defeats. According to reports, the speech given by the president’s assistants was “ball forward”.

The meeting took place at the beginning of this week, days after the defeats, and included PT and government leaders in Congress.

At the end of last week, the overturning of the president’s vetoes on the so-called dosimetry shook the relationship between the federal administration and the Legislative leadership.

The ministers argued, according to interlocutors who were present at the meeting, that the government still has agendas of interest in the National Congress and that therefore there would be no reason for the rupture.

One of the government’s priorities for the year, the PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) at the end of the 6×1 scale, . And there are still hopes, for example, of approving the bill in the Upper House.

The main articulator of Jorge Messias’ rejection was the president of the Federal Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-PA). The government even considered immediate retaliation against the senator, with dismissals of allies allocated to federal management, but at this point it opted for caution.

Lula and his assistants are still measuring the ideal response to the episode. There has not yet been a definition as to whether the president will nominate a new name to the STF immediately or postpone the decision until after the elections.
