British singer Bonnie Tyler, star of the 1980s, was urgently admitted to a hospital in Portugal, where she underwent an intestinal operation, according to those around her. “We deeply regret to announce that Bonnie was admitted to a hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a residence, to undergo an emergency intestinal operation“, indicates a message published on Wednesday on the 74-year-old singer’s official website.

The statement adds that “the intervention went well” and that the interpreter of “Total Eclipse of the Heart” is “in recovery at the moment”, without providing further details about her health status.

The singer’s real name is Gaynor Hopkins and she was born in Wales. The artist rose to fame in the late 70s with the hit “It’s a Heartache”, before becoming one of the great figures of the 80s thanks to songs like “Total Eclipse of the Heart” (1983) and “Holding Out for a Hero” (1984).
