Trailer crosses in front of Elfyn Evans at Rally de Portugal

The Portugal Rally was marked this Friday by unusual and worrying moments on the Arganil 2 section, which ended up being canceled for safety reasons.

The first incident happened when Elfyn Evans came across a trailer traveling on the stage at the same time as the competitors were competing in the special. Shortly afterwards, Oliver Solberg found a GNR soldier on the runway.

Given the situation, the organization decided to cancel the qualifier from 12th place onwards, giving the other drivers a time of 12.15 minutes.

Later, the Toyota Gazoo Racing team lodged a protest, claiming that the dust raised by the trailer impaired Elfyn Evans’ performance. The complaint was accepted by the commissions, which ended up correcting the British driver’s time by 4.6 seconds.

Despite the change, Evans remains in fifth place in the general classification, 28.1 seconds behind leader Sébastien Ogier.

The incidents generated strong discussion between fans and teams, mainly due to the security failures recorded in one of the most emblematic races of the championship.
