North of Brazil has a 37% increase in international passengers

Belém and Manaus boost the sector with the expansion of routes in the 1st quarter of 2026

Passenger movement in the North of Brazil for international flights registered an increase of 37.3% in the 1st quarter of 2026, compared to the same period in 2025. From January to March, there were 53,545 departures abroad from the region’s airports. This number surpassed the 38,988 from the previous year.

The data is from Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency), compiled by the Ministry of Ports and Airports, and released this week. The increase was driven by the expansion of operations in the two largest capitals in the North: Belém (PA) and Manaus (AM).

The total number of international departures departing from the region increased from 607 in the 1st quarter of 2025 to 682 in the same period of 2026, an increase of 12.4%.

POST-COP30 ADVANCEMENT

Belém airport led the proportional increase in flights. The capital of Pará, which gained international prominence by hosting COP30 (United Nations Conference on Climate Change) at the end of 2025, saw the number of flights abroad increase by 31.4% in the first months of this year. There were 276 flights in the 1st quarter of 2026.

The main direct connections from Belém are:

  • Lisbon (Portugal): 28% of operations;
  • Zanderij (Suriname): 18.1% of operations.

MANAUS ALSO ADVANCES

Manaus recorded a more contained increase in the number of international departures, 2%. Flights rose from 397 to 405 in the period. The capital of Amazonas maintains consolidated operations focused on Latin America.

The most frequent destinations from Manaus are:

  • Bogotá (Colombia): 30.8% of flights;
  • Panama City (Panama): 22%.

The increase in flights from the North region indicates a movement by airlines to maintain the supply of seats generated by the recent business demand in the region. The flow of ecological tourism in the Amazon also contributes to this scenario.
