Dollar closes below R$4.90; Ibovespa rises

Investors followed US employment data, corporate earnings and the conflict in the Middle East

The dollar fell 0.59% this Friday (May 8, 2026), quoted at R$4.894, the lowest level since January 2024. The currency reached a maximum of R$4.915 and a minimum of R$4.890 during the session.

During the week, the US currency accumulated a drop of 1.13% against the real. The dollar’s appreciation movement was in line with the DXY – an indicator that measures the strength of the dollar against a basket of 6 developed market currencies – which fell 0.39%, at 5:20 pm.

Ibovespa, the main indicator of , rose 0.49%, to 184,108.29 points, but closed negative for the 4th consecutive week with a drop of 1.63%.

In the corporate earnings season, the highlight was Embraer, which collapsed with its 1st quarter numbers. The company’s profit fell 59.7% compared to the same period in 2025.

EMBJ shares closed down 11.45%.

CONFLICT IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Brent crude oil rose 0.51% to US$100.99 at 5:20 p.m. The market continues to follow the war in the Middle East. US vessels with Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz – through which 20% of all commodities consumed in the world pass.

NORTH AMERICAN MARKET

Stock markets in the US also closed lower:

  • Dow Jones: 49.609,04 (+0,02%);
  • S&P 500: 7.396,79 (+0,81%) e
  • Nasdaq: 26.247,08 (+1,71%).

On the economic agenda, the highlight was the payroll, the main US employment report. The country created 115 thousand jobs in April. The number was higher than expected by the market. The American unemployment rate did not increase, contrary to expectations, and remained stable at 4.3%,

The data reduced the perception of risk of an increase in interest rates by the Federal Reserve, the North American central bank.
