The Regional Electoral Court of Roraima (TRE-RR) granted on Tuesday, 5, an injunction that suspends the progress of the supplementary election to the State government, scheduled for June 21, for ten days.
The decision by electoral judge Allan Kardec Mendonça Filho, which still needs to be analyzed in plenary, complies with a writ of mandamus filed by the Republicans, party of interim governor Soldado Sampaio, against deadlines set out in a resolution by the TRE itself.
The resolution establishes that candidates who need to leave their positions to contest the election must do so within 24 hours after the party convention. The Republicans argue that the rule contradicts federal legislation and calls for the suspension of electoral deadlines until the court analyzes the issue. The parties MDB, Progressistas, União Brasil, PDT and Agir also seek to invalidate the established decompatibilization deadline.

When granting the injunction, an urgent and provisional decision, the judge understood that the temporary suspension prevents parties from choosing candidates based on a rule that could be annulled by the court’s plenary session. On Wednesday, the 6th, the Public Electoral Ministry spoke out against the request and defended the full maintenance of the resolution.
The legal dispute occurs days after the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) ordered direct elections in the State after revoking the mandate of then governor Edilson Damião (União).
At least seven names are nominated as pre-candidates for the buffer mandate, lasting until January 5, 2027. Among them are Edilson Damião himself; interim governor Soldado Sampaio, who was president of the state Legislative Assembly; Arthur Henrique (PL); Antônia Pedrosa (PT); Hipérion de Oliveira Silva (PV); José Luiz Zago (New) and Paulo César Quartiero (DC).
