Former SP deputy was called by Mariana Conti, from Campinas, a “macho” and “sex tourist” after leaked audios with statements about Ukrainian women
The 5th Civil Appeal Panel of the (São Paulo Court of Justice) rejected on April 30 the appeal presented by the former state deputy (Mission) in the action for moral damages filed against the councilor of Campinas, Mariana Conti (Psol). Read the of the decision (PDF – 233 kB).
Arthur do Val, known as Mamãe Falei, was the target of criticism from the councilwoman, who called him a “macho”, “sexual explorer” e “sex tourist”after leaked audio, which shows the former deputy “Ukrainian women are easy because they are poor”.
The episode took place when Arthur do Val traveled in 2022 to the Ukrainian border to help refugees who were leaving the country because of the war. The councilor was called to the scene by members and began to publicly criticize the former deputy. At the time, Arthur do Val took office after Alesp’s Parliamentary Ethics and Decorum Council approved the report calling for his impeachment. Despite his resignation, the deputy still had to face the process that made him ineligible for 8 years.
Rapporteur Henrique Nader stated in the decision that the councilor’s statements were made in “context of reaction to provocative and intimidating acts by the appellant himself against women in vulnerable situations in urban occupation”. According to him, they were based “believable” in the audios that led to his impeachment.
The former deputy requested compensation for moral damages in the amount of R$50,000.
