Parties from the governor’s base (Republicans) are already mobilized to fight for next year. The seat will become available, with the decision of the current occupant of the position, André do Prado (PL), to run for the Senate.
The PL intends to maintain the presidency of the House, if the plan of having the largest bench in the October election comes to fruition. The party plans to elect at least 23 deputies.
The PSD, led by Gilberto Kassab, expects to gain more than 20 deputies, and thus compete with the PL.
The practice is that the nominee for president is from the largest group, but Tarcísio will have the final say. The name that the governor likes most is his. The deputy avoids talking about the topic and says that, first of all, he needs to be re-elected.
The PSDB will try to win the presidency under the argument that it was not included in the assembly of the majority ticket. Tarcísio’s deputy, Felício Ramuth, left the PSD for the MDB. Kassab’s acronym was also overlooked when nominating candidates for the Senate. The ticket will continue with Guilherme Derrite (PP) and Prado.
In the PL, there are internal differences surrounding the presidency. Deputies aligned with Bolsonarism articulate the candidacy of a representative to succeed Prado, seen as a figure close to the center.
The group does not yet have any established name, but is studying possibilities such as Gil Diniz, Lucas Bove and Tenente Coimbra.
Prado’s trip to the Senate gave more visibility to the presidency of Alesp. At the head of the São Paulo Legislature, he approached Tarcísio and responded to mayoral requests.
Prado even used this proximity as an argument to convince Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL) to endorse his candidacy for the Senate. The current president of Alesp says that, if elected, he will be a municipal senator.
