On Saturday, May 9, there was good news in the Slovak show business! Politician Michal Sabo, who hung up his career as a presenter a few years ago, got married. In the last elections, the environmental activist fought his way into parliament on the candidate of the Progressive Slovakia movement. As one of the few politicians, he officially joined the LGBTI+ community.
He and his partner decided to seal their love beyond the borders of Slovakia. “The newlyweds wish you a happy Europe Day. M&M,” wrote about the wedding photo on Saturday at the Sabo lunch. You can find it in the gallery.
The EU commemorates Europe Day every year on May 9. This date is the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. It is a 1950 proposal by the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robert Schuman, which laid the foundations of European cooperation. Schuman’s proposal is considered the beginning of today’s EU.
Michal Šefčík won the heart of the Slovak parliamentarian years ago. The former manager of Mir Jaroš or Dominika Mirgová, who started his own business, showed off a joint photo on Instagram last year with a description that exudes strong feelings. “My world is better with you“, Šefčík confessed. Many well-known faces from show business wished them well.
Sabo’s witness was actress Zuzana Kubovčíková Šebová, she attended the wedding together with her husband Michal Kubovčík and children. “Yesterday was a very special day. Congratulations, our loved ones. 25 years of friendship. It was a great honor to be your witness,” Šebová wrote on Sunday. Although the couple married across the border, member states must recognize same-sex marriages concluded in the Union.
Lucia Plaváková, MP for Progressive Slovakia, was also very moved. “The most beautiful wedding. I cried all through it from emotion. May your love continue to shine and melt hearts around you, far and wide,” she said to the newlyweds in the video of the wedding, which she shared on social networks. You can find it above the article. Beneath her post, good comments from Slovaks appeared.
“I hope that one day it will be possible here too,” wished one of the commenters. “We will continue to do our best for it. We experienced so much goodness, love and beauty today. It is incomprehensible when someone prevents it.” Plaváková assured her.
