Understand what bacterial laryngitis is, a disease that kept Diogo Nogueira away

Singer Diogo Nogueira, 45, had to cancel shows over the next few days due to a diagnosis of severe bacterial laryngitis. The disease is an inflammation of the larynx, which can lead to hoarseness, coughing and even shortness of breath. Check out the main symptoms of the disease and how to treat it.

The most common form of laryngitis, according to experts, is the viral form. The condition is milder and can be treated with a common anti-inflammatory. However, if it is of bacterial origin, the use of antibiotics is necessary. The disease can be contracted through the air or as a result of diseases of the respiratory system, such as tuberculosis.

According to doctor Marcio Abrahão, otorhinolaryngologist at Einstein Hospital Israelita, most cases of laryngitis have a direct impact on the voice. “It can also cause respiratory discomfort and, if the discomfort is severe, it can lead to hospitalization”, explains the specialist.

He explains that the most serious cases generally affect children and risk groups, such as immunosuppressed patients, diabetics and smokers. The doctor also warns of the higher incidence of infections during winter, and that it is essential to combat cases of the disease.

“The conditions are much milder when patients are vaccinated”, he reassures.

Case could keep Diogo Nogueira away from the stage for up to three months

The statement published by the singer’s team says that he “is being treated in a hospital environment, temporarily making it impossible to use his voice for musical performances. We regret and thank the public for their understanding and support, reinforcing that the decision was taken on medical advice, aiming for the singer’s full recovery.”

The team did not say which performances were affected and there is no information about when they will return to the stage.
