Senate approves automatic renewal of driver’s license for drivers without fines

Provisional Measure 1,327/2025 goes to presidential sanction and benefits drivers registered with the Rnpc without infractions

The Federal Senate approved this Tuesday (May 12, 2026) the automatic renewal of the National Driving License for drivers with no history of traffic violations. A, aproven as, ssubmitted for sanction by the president (PT). The benefit applies to drivers registered in the (National Positive Driver Register).

The Chamber of Deputies had approved the text on Friday (May 8, 2026). The measure establishes the automatic renewal of the driver’s license for drivers who have not registered infractions in the 12 months prior to the document’s expiration date.

WHO HAS THE RIGHT

Automatic renewal applies to drivers under 50 years of age. Drivers aged 50 to 69 will be entitled to automatic renewal only once.

Beneficiaries must be registered with the Rnpc and physical and mental examinations will still be required. The law allows drivers to choose whether they prefer to have their license in a physical or digital format.

The Rnpc already works as a kind of “reward” for drivers with no history of infractions in the last 12 months. Registered drivers can obtain discounts on taxes, tolls, parking, insurance and vehicle rental, as well as special conditions on fares and cashback offers.
