A 37-year-old man, detained for attempted murder, managed to escape from the Ponte de Sor court this Wednesday, in an escape allegedly prepared with the help of family members and which led the National Republican Guard to mount a real manhunt.
According to a judicial source, the escape took place during preparations for the interrogation of the accused. An alleged distraction maneuver in court would have allowed the detainee to escape the surveillance of the authorities.
Witnesses recorded on video the moment of confusion outside the building, where a group of people can be seen concentrated near the court, while military police rush to their vehicles to begin the chase.
Authorities believe that the suspect’s family members played an important role in the evasion, facilitating the man’s escape, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
The GNR maintains operations on the ground to locate the fugitive and identify everyone involved in the alleged ambush of the security forces.
