Israel strikes Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. The attack came just a day after the US announced the extension of the ceasefire

Israel is again attacking Hezbollah in southern Lebanon just a day after the ceasefire was extended. The strikes hit several villages and forced thousands of people to flee.

Israel’s military struck targets of the Hezbollah militant group in southern Lebanon again on Saturday, just a day after the United States announced an extension of the ceasefire between the two countries. According to a statement from the Israeli Armed Forces (IDF), the attacks targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in several areas. Lebanon’s state news agency NNA reported that the strikes hit at least five municipalities in the region. Before the strikes, Israel ordered the evacuation of nine villages.

  • The Israeli army struck Hezbollah infrastructure in several areas of southern Lebanon.
  • The airstrikes hit at least five villages and were preceded by the evacuation of villages.
  • The attacks came shortly after the truce between Israel and Lebanon was extended by 45 days.
  • Hezbollah’s rocket attacks began on March 2 in retaliation for US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
  • Israeli attacks in Lebanon have killed approximately 2,900 people, including hundreds after the ceasefire.

Tension despite the ceasefire

The attacks came just over 12 hours after the US State Department announced a 45-day extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. At the same time, the United States said that negotiations between the two sides will continue and will also expand to security issues. The ceasefire, which was initially announced by US President Donald Trump on April 16, has already been extended once by three weeks and was due to end on Sunday.

The roots of the conflict

Tensions between Israel and Lebanon escalated after Hezbollah launched rocket attacks on Israel on March 2. The move was in retaliation for the US-Israeli attacks on Iran that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Since then, Israeli attacks in Lebanon have killed around 2,900 people, more than 400 of whom died after the ceasefire, Lebanese authorities said.

Growing casualties of the conflict

The situation in the Middle East remains tense, with civilians on both sides facing serious consequences. Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon and rocket fire by Hezbollah continue to threaten the stability of the region, despite efforts by the international community to maintain a ceasefire.
