Viana do Castelo/Quiberon – Olympic champion Valentin Bontus won the bronze medal at the Formula Kite World Sailing Championships off Viana do Castelo in Portugal. The Lower Austrian had already been able to celebrate third place in the World Cup two years ago. The 25-year-old came into the semifinals in fifth place on Friday, which he clearly won on Saturday and thus moved into the top four medal fight. Bronze was enough. Max Maeder from Singapore became world champion for the third time ahead of the Swiss Gian Stragiotti.
