Australian airline Qantas was forced to divert a flight bound for the United States after one of the passengers bit a member of the cabin crew, according to local media. TASR writes about it based on a Sunday report by AFP and The Guardian.
Friday’s flight from Melbourne was headed to Dallas, USA. Due to the behavior of this passenger, the plane was forced to land in Papeete, the capital of French Polynesia.
The other passengers detained the man and, according to the company’s spokesperson, the rest of the staff also helped in the incident. Local media, including national ABC television, reported that the man had bitten a crew member.
Upon arrival in Papeete, the plane was greeted by the authorities and the man was banned from using Qantas and Jetstar air services. The plane was refueled and the flight then continued to Dallas, where it arrived on Saturday morning.
“The safety of our customers and crew is our highest priority and we have zero tolerance for disruptive or threatening behavior on our flights,” a Qantas spokesman said on Sunday.
