A 17th March of Mayors takes place between today and Thursday (21), in Brasilia. The organizers expect to bring together more than 15 thousand people, including mayors, secretaries and city managers from across Brazil. The event takes place every year around municipal agendas, however, this year one of the main focuses is the participation of pre-candidates for the Presidency of the Republic.
According to the event organizers, the Flavio Bolsonaro (PL), Romeu Zema (Novo), Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), Aldo Rebelo (DC) e Renan Santos (Mission) confirmed that they will participate in hearings with the mayors. The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has not yet guaranteed its presence.
However, according to interlocutors from Palácio do Planalto, if he goes, it will be “only” as head of the Executive, avoiding being questioned like the other pre-candidates.
The intention is to prevent Lula from being charged with the recently launched Program to Combat Organized Crime. The 17th march intends to focus on discussions about problems faced by municipalities in the sphere of public security. The topic will be debated among pre-candidates for the Presidency of the Republic.
According to National Confederation of MunicipalitiesBrazilian cities’ spending on public security grew 66% in the last 10 years, rising from R$7.5 billion in 2016 to R$12.4 billion in 2025.
Topics such as the distribution of oil royalties, tax reform, education, climate emergency, public consortiums and sanitation will also be debated.
Presidential Candidates
The preliminary schedule foresees the participation of (19). If he appears, it will be a test for the senator. Since the news emerged, the pre-candidate has only participated in public events.

In addition to the hearing with pre-candidates for the presidency of the Republic, the event also features lectures on the main stage, technical arenas and a space aimed at sponsors with news for the Municipalities.
