The captain of Real Madrid, Spanish right-back Dani Carvajal, will leave the club at the end of the current season, the Madrid board announced this Monday (18).
“Carvajal is one of five players in the entire history of football to have won six Champions Leagues, and was part of a team that played a part in one of the most brilliant eras in our history,” highlighted the club.
Formed at Real Madrid, and after a brief spell at Bayer Leverkusen (2012-2013), the full-back won 27 titles in 450 games with the Real Madrid shirt: six Champions Leagues, six Club World Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, four Spanish Championships, two King’s Cups and four Spanish Super Cups.
For the Spanish team, there were 51 games played, with the titles of the 2024 Euro Cup and the UEFA Nations League in 2023.
Carvajal had hopes of going to the 2026 World Cup, but has been unable to get a run of games in since suffering a serious knee injury in October 2024, which sidelined him for eight months.
Upon his return, in July last year, he entered the semi-final of the Club World Cup against Paris Saint-Germain, in a 4-0 defeat by Real Madrid. This season, he suffered a series of muscle injuries that ruled him out of several of the team’s games.
According to the Spanish press, Carvajal is not on the national team coach Luis de la Fuente’s 55-man pre-list for the next World Cup.
The full-back will have the opportunity to say goodbye to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium next Saturday (23), against Athletic Bilbao, in the last round of the Spanish Championship.
