The match was against Ferroviária late this Wednesday afternoon (20) in Araraquara
Defender Sarah Aysha, from São Paulo, accused a stretcher bearer from the Ferroviária team of misogyny this Wednesday (20), at Fonte Luminosa, in Araraquara, in the interior of São Paulo, during the second leg of the semi-final of the under-20 Brazilian Women’s Championship.
Sarah said in an interview with Sportv that she was called an “odd job” after receiving treatment in the final minutes of the match, when she left the game on a stretcher. The racism and misogyny protocol was activated by referee Talita Ximenes de Freitas.
The match referee also asked if the player would be able to continue in the game after the situation and the defender confirmed. However, before returning to the pitch and crying, she fell ill on the bench. The stretcher-bearer was removed from the stadium after the chaos began.
“We are in a base category. We are here to learn and, at a time like that, for the guy to tell me to take my ass….and call me a piece of cake, is unacceptable. We are training every day, all year long, training away from our family, only for a guy to come and call me an odd job off the field. It’s unacceptable,” said Sarah during the interview.
The São Paulo Football Federation (FPF) and the two clubs regretted the situation. Ferroviária said it will understand more about the case to take appropriate measures. “The behavior recorded is unacceptable, does not represent the values of the institution and goes against everything we defend on and off the field: respect, responsibility, ethics, human development and appreciation of women in sport”, said the team from the interior of São Paulo. “The institution informs that the conduct will be investigated internally and that the appropriate measures will be adopted”, he added.
The team also reported that the professional provided punctual service. “The individual involved provided occasional service to the club. Given the seriousness of the conduct, the contract was terminated immediately”, he clarified.
São Paulo stated that it will provide support to the player. “São Paulo FC also informs that it will provide all necessary support to the athlete, who we are very proud to have in the squad, wearing our shirt. Women’s Football is huge, and there is no room for regrettable scenes like this”concluded.
The FPF trusts that the facts will be duly investigated by the competent authorities. “And he is available to fully collaborate with whatever is necessary, so that there is accountability and so that episodes like this do not find space in sport”, said the Federation in a statement.
