Nicaraguan Sergio Ramírez, elected RAE academic: “It is the crowning of my life as a writer”

The Nicaraguan writer was elected this afternoon as a member of the (RAE), in the plenary session that the institution held in Madrid. The journalist and former politician will also occupy the L chair, which was left vacant by his death a little over a year ago, on April 13, 2025. “Entering the academy grounds is the crowning of my life as a writer,” said the 2017 Cervantes Prize winner – the first Central American to win it – in a telephone conversation from Panama, where he participated in the cultural festival.
