A man was arrested in the state of Texas, in the United States, after intentionally driving a Tesla Cybertruck into Lake Grapevine to test “Wade Mode”, a feature of the vehicle that allows it to cross areas with shallow water.
According to Grapevine police, the incident happened on Monday, May 18, when authorities found the vehicle partially submerged along the lakeshore.
The driver himself admitted that he wanted to try the mode announced by Tesla, which allows the Cybertruck to circulate in shallow waters. However, the attempt went wrong: the vehicle became immobilized and began to sink, forcing emergency teams to remove the car from the water.
Despite the scare, both the driver and passengers managed to escape unharmed.
The man was arrested for operating a vehicle in a prohibited area of the lake and for several infractions related to water safety rules.
The police also left a warning, reminding us that, although some vehicles have the technical capacity to enter shallow water, this can pose legal and safety risks.
The Cybertruck’s “Wade Mode” was designed for limited crossings in shallow water, and is only recommended in specific conditions and at low speed.
