It has stood on the edge of the Giza desert for four and a half millennia, has survived sandstorms, conquests, climatic changes and mass tourism – and has probably also survived several severe earthquakes almost unscathed: the originally 146 meter high Pyramid of Cheops, which was the tallest building in the world for several millennia, now only measures around 139 meters. However, its tip still extends a little further into the sky than that of St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
