Sudden accelerations and braking, sharp curves, abrupt lane changes and exceeding speed limits are among the items observed by company 99 to monitor the behavior of partner motorcyclists. Using sensors, the company developed a system with an algorithm that captures all these irregular movements and alerts drivers.
Running red lights, going the wrong way and walking on the sidewalk are the next monitoring points.
Internal data from the technology company focused on urban mobility reveal that up to 82% of drivers are able to correct risky behaviors after receiving preventive restriction warnings on the app. The survey is from the Management Report and covers the first three months of 2026.

In Rio and in the country
In Rio de Janeiro, the initiative’s pilot city, the best result was recorded in March, when 82% of motorcyclists started to drive safer after receiving the warning. In October 2025, the city decided to monitor dangerous maneuvers by app drivers. 99 was one of those who adhered to the decree.
In January of this year, the rate was 48% and, in February, the improvement rate was 14%, but the volume of motorcyclists reported for reckless behavior was the lowest of all: just 0.03% of the total number of partner drivers in the city.
At a national level, the rate of behavior correction was also high: in March, more than 80% of alerted motorcyclists improved their driving in the same month. In the other months analyzed, the rates were 31% in January and 7% in February.

Restrictions
99’s senior safety manager, Maria Luiza Marcolan, explains that the company requires a minimum score of 60% for the driver to continue driving:
“We send a message to the driver with a score lower than 60% to pay attention. If they don’t improve their behavior within 15 days, they will be subject to a restriction. Within 15 days, 30% will already improve.”
According to her, with the first restriction, the driver is off the platform for five days. If it happens again the following month, ten days. Again, the next month, 30 days. If it happens again, the driver is blocked from the platform.
According to Maria Luiza, of those restricted for the first time, 60% improved their riding. “The objective is to change behavior. The majority remain on the five-day restriction.”
The manager explains that the Driving Report helps the motorcyclist partner to understand their behavior and make practical adjustments on a daily basis, which is directly reflected in risk reduction.
“We observed a 35% reduction in accidents recorded in the first quarter of this year – a result three times greater than the reduction recorded in the same period in 2025, when there was an 11% decrease in this index.”

She adds that this difference of almost 24 percentage points reinforces the understanding that, when technology and education are combined, it is possible to generate a real impact on road safety.
