Mother of abandoned children arrives at court singing and stepfather shouts saying “I love you”

The mother and stepfather of the French children abandoned in Alcácer do Sal were taken this Friday to the Setúbal Court to be heard by the judicial authorities.

Upon arriving at the court, the 55-year-old man was the first to get out of the GNR van and addressed the people present, shouting in French: “Je vous aime” (“I love you”). Soon after, the 41-year-old woman came out, appearing to hum, although it was not possible to understand what she was saying.

The two were detained last Thursday by the GNR on a terrace near Fátima, in the municipality of Ourém. The couple is suspected of keeping their children, aged four and five, in conditions considered worrying by authorities.

On Friday morning, the suspects were transported to the Palmela GNR Territorial Post and, later, went to the Setúbal Court, where they arrived accompanied by several Guard vehicles. Access to the building was through the garage, as is customary in these situations.
