Streaming platform will make 500 Brazilian films available for free, including shorts, medium-length films and feature films
The president (PT) announced the launch of Tela Brasil for May 30th in a ceremony in Cidade das Artes, in Rio. The declaration was made this Saturday (May 23rd) during the inauguration of the headquarters of the CDTS (Center for Technological Development in Health) of the (Fundação Oswaldo Cruz), in Rio.
The government’s platform had already been announced by the (Ministry of Culture), but . The service offers around 555 Brazilian films for free. The platform is one of the government’s biggest deliveries to the audiovisual sector.
In a note released in January, the MinC stated that Tela Brasil “represents a strategic advance towards the appreciation of Brazilian culture, the strengthening of the sector and the democratization of access to works produced in the country”.
The platform was created by SAV (Audiovisual Secretariat) in partnership with Ufal (Federal University of Alagoas). The investment was R$4.4 million. Registration on Tela Brasil will be linked to registration on .
According to MinC, the platform aims to serve the general public and basic education schools.
“[O Tela Brasil] also includes non-commercial exhibition spaces, such as film clubs, Points and Points of Culture, public libraries, cultural dissemination, reading and memory centers, in addition to CEUs“, said the ministry.
