Either Montenegro changes the way it governs, or we go to elections, warns Inês Sousa Real

PAN leader, Inês Sousa Real

PAN leader also addressed the cases of dogs in “deplorable” conditions and French children abandoned in Alcácer do Sal.

The leader of the People Animals Nature (PAN) party, Inês Souza Realconsidered that Luís Montenegro “has to change the paradigm of the way he governs” if he wants to avoid going to elections again.

Last week, Luís Montenegro launched his candidacy for leadership of the PSD and said: “The people don’t want elections, I would even say, they are fed up with elections. The people have already made their choice and in 2029 they will make the next one. In 2029 they will evaluate the Government’s performance.”

Commenting on these statements, Inês Sousa Real told Lusa that “it is a shame that the political forces that are in power today did not have this vision and this same call for containment when they were in opposition”.

“It is clear that we we desire more stable political cycles, but this cannot be a blank check for the Government to legislate with its back turned for the opposition, also legislate with its back turned to the country’s problems, as we recently saw in the reform of the labor package, which even cut fundamental aspects such as, for example, breastfeeding rights”, commented the deputy.

In your opinion, Montenegro intends to say: “Do what I tell you and don’t do what I do. In other words, because when I was effectively in opposition, this was not the scenario we had”.

“In fact, in the last elections it was the Prime Minister himself who pushed the country into an electoral act with an absolutely unnecessary motion of confidence. (…) People are tired, they are fed up with political games, they do want to have more housing, for young students to have a decent job opportunity in Portugal and to have environmental policies that protect them”, he said.

According to Inês Sousa Real, “When we have a government that is finally giving these answers, I believe that perhaps we will not stay here systematically discussing whether or not we are going to elections because we are going to have a country with more progress and, above all, a better quality of life”.

“Unfortunately, the parties that have governed our country have not had this vision, they have been very short-sighted and, for this very reason, they have not been up to the responsibility and the vote of confidence that the Portuguese have given them”.

Animals

Sousa Real was speaking on the sidelines of a visit to the Penafiel Municipal Kennel, where he denounced thehigh conditions where he found a group of dogs, belonging to hunters, but hosted in space rented by the local authority.

Inês Sousa Real told Lusa that she asked the GNR to intervene because the animals were in “deplorable conditions, surrounded by feces, without water and without food” and stated that he will present a criminal complaint.

“At the back of the kennel there is a space that was given to hunters here in the neighborhood, it is absolutely filthy, the animals are go hungrythey don’t have any conditions”, he maintained.

In that place, he said, there are “packs of different hunters, who were removed from a neighborhood, but who belong to different owners”.

“There is sick animalsfull of feces, skin and bones, eating their own waste, we even have videos of this”, he said.

It was during a visit to the Penafiel Municipal Kennel that the PAN leader noticed the existence of dogs barking in facilities attached to the kennel, which had not been included in the route visited.

“We went there and were faced with a degrading situation. We were told that the animals belonged to a group of hunters, so we reported it and called the GNR to the location,” he told Lusa.

In addition to this unhealthy situation and lack of food, cases of very sick animals were found.

There is an animal here that will probably die in the next few days. It is also suspected that there may be procreation of purebred dogs”, he added.

“Such cruelty”

The PAN leader commented, also this Saturday, on the case of french children in Alcácer do Sal.

“It’s impossible not to be in startle”, began writing Inês Sousa Real.

“It is difficult to find adjectives that qualify such cruelty and lack of empathy towards their own children and stepchildren. Even more so given the awareness that the outcome of this case could have been absolutely tragic. Fortunately it wasn’t.”

No, the deputy left, on the other hand, praise to the man who found and protected them: “In the midst of an episode that will certainly mark their lives, these children were lucky enough to cross their path with someone who protected and respected them, called Alexandre Quintas, to whom we can only be, as a collective, immensely grateful. Because his gesture and care are a contrast of hope, at a time when we see abuse and violence against minors increase.”

The children’s mother and stepfather are gone. Both are in preventive detention, the Setúbal Judicial Court announced this Saturday.

The mother, Marine Rosseau (41 years old), and stepfather Marc Ballabriga, 55 years old, are accused of “aggravated physical harm and exposure and abandonment”.
