Members of the National Council of the Slovak Republic from the Slovakian Movement club and the For the People party declare their readiness to add their signatures to the convening of an extraordinary parliamentary session at which a decision would be made on the dismissal of the Minister of the Environment Tomáš Taraba (SNS nominee). The TASR news agency reported on this with reference to the Sunday press conference of deputy Július Jakab.

Jakab said that their club is ready to provide all the signatures needed to convene an extraordinary meeting and support the dismissal of the head of the environmental department. According to him, Taraba should not have held a ministerial post for a long time, and he sees the process of zoning national parks as a step in favor of selected business groups, who, according to him, want to develop their own business in the Tatras.
Challenge for Danko
At the same time, the opposition member pointed out that, according to him, SNS chairman Andrej Danko has an opportunity to confirm how serious he is with his critical statements towards the government and Taraba. Jakab recalled that it was Danko who repeatedly expressed criticism of the Minister of the Environment, and claims that now he has the opportunity to show whether he will fulfill his words.
In the event that the chairman of the SNS did not act and Taraba remained in office, Jakab indicated that this would only confirm his political subordination to Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD). According to him, Danko would not achieve any real change in the government in that case.

On Sunday, the topic of the dismissal of the Minister of the Environment was also addressed by Progressive Slovakia deputy Tamara Stohlová. She pointed out that one of the steps of their movement is the initiation of Tarab’s resignation from the position in the parliament. At the same time, she rejected information about the alleged agreement between PS and SNS to support his appeal. Even the SNS itself denied such an agreement.
According to TASR, Nationalist leader Andrej Danko plans to personally propose to Prime Minister Robert Fico the dismissal of Tomáš Taraba from the ministerial position on Monday. The prime minister has already announced a meeting where Taraba and Danko are to meet. However, in connection with a possible personnel change in the government, Fico demands from the SNS a guarantee that the majority of the government coalition in the parliament will continue to be maintained.
Taraba has no plans to leave
According to TASR, the Minister of the Environment himself refuses to resign. He claims that the chairman of the SNS is continuously informed about the events at the environmental department and his steps, including the preparation of proposals for the zoning of national parks. According to his own words, Taraba clearly stands behind these proposals.
