Vehicles caught fire after a head-on collision in Santa Cruz de Salinas, north of the state; highway is completely closed
One frontal collision between one bus and a cart he left eight dead on BR-251, in Santa Cruz de Salinas, in the north of Minas Gerais, this Sunday morning (24). The accident occurred at around 5:55 am, at kilometer 230 of the highway, and resulted in a fire that affected both vehicles.
According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the eight confirmed deaths were among bus occupants. The driver of the truck, which was transporting a load of scrap metal, did not die in the impact.
The track remains completely closed for emergency teams to work. According to the PRF, there is difficulty in sending updates on the status of other passengers and the dynamics of the accident due to the lack of cell phone signal on the stretch.
PRF teams remain on site to coordinate traffic and carry out forensic procedures. There is still no forecast for the opening of the road.
